Food City opened a new 54,000-square-foot store April 30 in Huntsville, Alabama, the second of six locations planned for that market.
“Our Owens Cross Roads store opened last fall and has been very well received,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and CEO.
“We’re excited to open our second location on Old Gurley Road, with two additional stores (Governor’s Drive and Memorial Parkway) scheduled to open later this summer to better serve the residents of Huntsville and Madison County.”
The location includes an in-store bakery and deli with a hot food bar, large café seating area and fireplace; Asian wok; fresh food bar offering a variety of soup, salad and fruit selections; hickory wood smoker; pizza oven and fresh sushi.
Full-service meat and seafood departments offer top-quality meats, including Certified Angus Beef, and in-house butchers to hand cut steaks and fresh meat to order.
Expanded grocery, frozen food and produce departments go beyond the normal fare with a selection of specialty, gourmet and vegan items.
The Food City floral boutique, staffed with a designer seven days a week, offers a full assortment of fresh-cut floral arrangements, bouquets and gift items. Curbside pick-up and home delivery are available.
The store also includes a Food City pharmacy with a drive-thru, Food City Gas N’ Go featuring top quality fuel/diesel, a Starbucks cafe offering an assortment of blended hot/cold coffees and beverages and a Family Savings Credit Union branch providing a full range of financial services.
The new location also features several energy-saving concepts, ranging from energy-efficient glass cooler doors, parking lot lights and refrigeration systems to motion sensors and 100 percent LED lighting.
“Our customers can expect to find exceptional customer service and top-quality products at the lowest possible prices, along with great variety/selection and some exciting services and conveniences,” Smith said.
Headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia, K-VA-T Food Stores (Food City’s parent company) operates 158 retail outlets throughout southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, north Georgia and Alabama.
