Fairway Market plans to introduce a culinary venture with BagelUp to bring interactive bagel-making classes to its 74th Street Café on the Upper West Side in New York City.
The classes, scheduled to kick off next month, will be led by BagelUp baker Reva Castillenti and offer participants an opportunity to roll, seed, boil and bake their own bagels.
“Bagels and Fairway – two things New Yorkers take very seriously – and for good reason,” said Amanda Fischer, marketing manager at Fairway Market. “Fairway has always been a hub for real food lovers. Bringing bagel-making classes into our store continues that tradition, offering something meaningful, hands-on and uniquely New York.”
Castillenti’s bagels have taken second place at the World Bread Awards two years running. She brings expertise and hands-on instruction in traditional techniques with storytelling that traces the bagel’s cultural roots. From mixing and shaping the dough to boiling and baking, guests will learn every step of the process using ingredients from Fairway Market.
“Fairway is part of the fabric of New York food culture,” said Sam Silverman, president of BagelUp and widely known as NYC’s “Bagel Ambassador.”
“We’re thrilled to bring our classes into a space that so many New Yorkers already love and trust. Whether you’re a local looking to fill the void left by Absolute Bagels’ recent closure or a tourist seeking an authentic New York experience, this partnership makes bagel-making more accessible than ever.”
The two-hour class, which will be held at 10 a.m. on Sundays, can accommodate up to 24 attendees. Tickets cost $150 per person and include tastings and take-home bagels.
As an option for group outings, corporate events or celebratory gatherings, private classes for up to 35 guests will be available throughout the week during morning, brunch and lunchtime hours.
The program launches May 4, with booking available at nycbageltours.com.
