C.H. Guenther & Son LLC (CHG) has acquired Mid South Baking Co. Headquartered in Bryan, Texas, Mid South is a supplier of buns and English muffins to quick-serve restaurants (QSRs) in the southern U.S. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1978, Mid South operates two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Bryan and Pelahatchie, Mississippi. The business will continue to operate out of its existing facilities, with management expecting the transaction to strengthen its offerings for both new and current customers.
CHG, a producer of branded and private label food products, is owned by Pritzker Private Capital (PPC) along with management and other co-investors. With the acquisition, San Antonio-based CHG now has more than 3,500 employees in 24 food manufacturing locations in the U.S., Canada and Western Europe.
“CHG’s culture, scale, product set and manufacturing expertise will allow Mid South to grow our reach and better serve our customers,” said Steve Warden, president of Mid South. “They are well-aligned with our emphasis on customer service and product quality, and we believe we can accomplish great things together.”
CHG CEO Dale Tremblay said, “Steve and the rest of the Mid South team have an impressive track record of success building the company into the market-leading bakery it is today. They have been able to scale with their customers while maintaining the highest levels of service, quality and safety. We are thrilled to welcome Mid South to the CHG family and look forward to working together to better serve our collective customers.”
CHG’s acquisition of Mid South represents its third in the past year, following the acquisitions of German bakery supplier Wback in January and Salt Lake City-based Cookietree Bakeries in 2018.
“Mid South fits exceptionally well with the values and objectives of the CHG and PPC teams,” said Chris Trick, principal at PPC. “We are excited to support CHG with the addition of the Mid South team and its manufacturing capabilities.”
