Dean Janeway,
President,
Wakefern Food Corp.
From a small, struggling cooperative with eight members – all owners of their own grocery stores – Wakefern Food Corp. has grown into the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the U.S.
With 45 years of service to Wakefern, Dean Janeway retired in January of 2012 as president emeritus from the company but leaves Wakefern with a great legacy of commitment and a firm foundation for continued growth.
During his tenure as president, Mr. Janeway led the company to significant growth and financial stability. Under Mr. Janeway’s leadership, Wakefern significantly expanded its membership base, resulting in the growth of its retail sales by more than 150 percent.
Mr. Janeway served as Wakefern Food Corp.’s president and chief operating officer from 1995 to 2011. In this role, Mr. Janeway provided broad leadership for the strategic direction and operations of the company and was an elected officer to its Board of Directors.
Mr. Janeway has served on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Frosted Foods Association (EFFA) and was a member and past president of the Eastern Perishable Products Association (EPPA). Other board service includes an eight-year term and two-year chairmanship on the Board of Directors of the National Grocers Association.
