Southern California grocer Gelson’s Markets has announced plans to rebuild and reopen its store in Pacific Palisades, California, following the loss of the original location during the Palisades Fire in January 2025.
The company intends to return to its site at 15424 Sunset Blvd. While a construction timeline and reopening date have not been finalized, the move signals a major reinvestment in a community the retailer has served for decades.
“Our Pacific Palisades store has long been a part of the fabric of this community,” said Ryan Adams, president and CEO of Gelson’s. “Its loss was deeply felt across our organization.
“Since our first store opened in Burbank in 1951, our commitment has always been to provide exceptional service and establish a genuine connection with the communities we call home. We will return in a way that reflects the resilience of the Palisades and our long-term investment there.”

The redevelopment aims to provide a modernized shopping experience while maintaining the signature offerings that define Gelson’s.
Customers can expect the return of premium produce, meats and seafood, alongside a full-service deli, floral department, catering services and Gelson’s Kitchen prepared foods.
The retailer noted that additional amenities are under consideration for the new build.
The announcement comes as the company continues to evolve its footprint in the region. Gelson’s recently introduced a smaller format market in Toluca Lake, California, designed as a neighborhood-focused concept within a mixed-use development.
That location emphasizes curated grocery assortments and chef-crafted foods tailored to local tastes.
“We are focused on the long term,” Adams said. “The same commitment to thoughtful growth and genuine community connection that guides our expansion across Southern California will guide our return to Pacific Palisades.”
The grocer operates 27 markets in Southern California, spanning from Santa Barbara to San Diego.
