Food Lion customers and associates generated more than 13 million meals for food-insecure neighbors through the 2026 Orange Bag campaign, which ran Feb. 25-March 17 across the grocer’s 10-state footprint.

Customers supported the effort by purchasing specially-marked bags filled with fresh navel oranges and making donations at the register or through Food Lion To Go, the retailer’s e-commerce platform. Contributions supported Food Lion Feeds’ partnership with Feeding America and local partner food banks.

Since the Orange Bag campaign launched in 2019, Food Lion customers have helped provide more than 54 million meals in total through navel orange bag purchases and in-store donations.

Nearly one in seven U.S. households experienced food insecurity in the most recent USDA data, underscoring the continued demand for community-level hunger relief programs.

Kevin Durkee, manager of Food Lion Feeds, said the campaign demonstrates how accessible giving can be when embedded into the shopping experience. “The Orange Bag campaign shows how simple it can be to come together and make a difference. We’re grateful for every customer and associate who made that impact possible,” Durkee said.

Feeding America President and COO Linda Nageotte said partnerships like the Orange Bag campaign are central to the organization’s hunger-relief model.

“Ending hunger requires strong partnerships and campaigns like Food Lion’s Orange Bag initiative are a powerful example of that collaboration in action. We’re grateful for Food Lion’s continued commitment and for the customers and associates making an impact in communities, helping ensure neighbors have access to the food and resources they need to thrive,” Nageotte said.

Food Lion Feeds has provided the equivalent of more than 1.5 billion meals since 2014 and has committed to reaching 3 billion meals by 2032. Food Lion operates more than 1,100 stores across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic and is a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize USA.
