The Family Fare in St. Ignace, Michigan, has completed its first comprehensive remodel in 25 years, modernizing a grocery destination that serves both the local Upper Peninsula community and year-round residents of Mackinac Island.
The transformation includes expanded fresh departments across dairy, meat and produce, refreshed bakery offerings and a full-service floral department. The store also features widened aisles, updated flooring and refreshed signage. New additions include a classic doughnut program, fresh pastries, expanded cold beer space and ready-to-drink options.
The grand reopening was celebrated with a kid-led ribbon cutting and a $2,500 check presentation to St. Ignace Area Schools, reflecting the store’s role as a community anchor on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
“This store plays a unique role for our community and our neighbors across the water,” said Clay Pettengill, store director. “This refresh ensures we can continue serving as a reliable grocery anchor, now with an updated, accessible and fresh shopping experience.”
The St. Ignace location serves a distinct market, functioning as a primary grocery resource for mainland residents and as a supply hub for Mackinac Island, where motorized vehicles are prohibited and ferry service connects the island to the Upper Peninsula shoreline.
Family Fare is a member of the C&S family of companies. C&S Wholesale Grocers operates more than 200 corporate-run grocery stores under banners including D&W Fresh Market, Grand Union, Family Fare, Martin’s Super Markets and Piggly Wiggly.
