More than 300 Harris Teeter store managers, store directors and store support center leaders packed 4,992 seven-day meal boxes during the company’s annual leadership meeting, generating more than 104,000 meals for individuals and families in Mecklenburg County through a partnership with Nourish Up.

Each box was packed with items including mac and cheese, tuna, pasta and canned fruits and vegetables, providing 21 meals — three per day for seven days — to recipients in need. The products were assembled entirely by Harris Teeter leadership attendees during the company gathering.

Tammy DeBoer, president of Harris Teeter, said the event reflects how the company approaches both its annual meeting and its community commitments.

“It was inspiring to see our store managers and leaders come together at our leadership meeting to serve our community in such a meaningful way. We’re proud to partner with Nourish Up for this donation event, and I’m especially proud of how our teams lead with both excellence and heart, demonstrating each day what it means to live out Harris Teeter’s purpose to enrich lives,” DeBoer said.

Tina Postel, CEO of Nourish Up, said the donation addresses food insecurity at a moment of heightened need. “The boxes assembled today will be distributed to individuals and families in need throughout Mecklenburg County, providing a full week of nutritious groceries and critical support during a time when many are struggling to put food on the table,” Postel said.

Nourish Up operates through a network of more than 40 food pantries and serves as the primary Meals on Wheels program in Mecklenburg County. Harris Teeter is a long-standing partner of the organization, providing both food and financial support.

Harris Teeter, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co., employs 36,000 associates across more than 250 stores and 85 fuel centers in eight states and the District of Columbia.
