Price Rite Marketplace raised nearly $27,500 for local food banks through its annual Check-Out Hunger campaign, which ran from November through January across all 53 stores. The campaign has now raised more than $2 million for hunger relief since its launch in 2002.
The top fundraising store this year was Price Rite Marketplace of Fall River, Massachusetts, which raised $4,600 for The Greater Boston Food Bank.
Donations were directed to 20 food bank partners across Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, including the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Philabundance, Foodlink, Capital Area Food Bank and the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, among others.
Kevin McDonnell, president of Price Rite Marketplace, said the campaign reflects a commitment that runs deeper than the annual fundraiser. “The Check-Out Hunger campaign continues to be a meaningful tradition at Price Rite, and we are grateful to our customers and team members who make it possible year after year. With so many of our neighbors facing food insecurity, these contributions help local food banks to provide essential support to individuals and families when they need it most,” McDonnell said.
Beyond the Check-Out Hunger campaign, Price Rite Marketplace contributes about $500,000 annually to local food banks and pantries through its Feeding Minds and Bodies initiative, in partnership with Feed the Children.
Price Rite Marketplace is a registered trademark of Wakefern Food Corp., the largest supermarket cooperative in the United States. The banner operates 53 stores across seven Northeastern states.
