The Save Mart Companies hosted a community celebration March 18 at its remodeled Save Mart store at 1504 Howard Road in Madera, unveiling a range of new departments and expanded product offerings at one of its long-standing Central Valley locations.

Mayor Cece Gallegos and other local dignitaries attended the event, which featured a performance by the Madera South High School Pom Team and a “Battle of the Bags” competition between the Madera Police and Fire Departments, with all bagged groceries donated to a local food bank.

What’s new

The remodeled store adds a full-service butcher block and seafood counter, an expanded service deli with grab-and-go options, a refreshed bakery cake case and an on-site florist. The produce section includes prepared items such as fruit parfaits, guacamole and salsa, alongside a broader ready-to-drink beverage and beer assortment. The store also expanded its Hispanic food product selection across multiple departments in response to community preferences.

Bobby McDowell, VP of store operations at Save Mart, said the upgrades reflect the retailer’s long-term commitment to the market.

“This store has been an important part of the Madera community for many years, and we’re proud to introduce these new upgrades and expanded services to make shopping easier and more enjoyable for our customers. We’re excited to celebrate alongside our neighbors and to continue serving this community for many years to come,” McDowell said.

Community giving and weekend events

As part of the celebration, The Save Mart Companies donated more than $2,500 in gift cards, food items and products to local high schools and nonprofit organizations.

The celebration continues March 21 with a vendor sampling event and appearances from the company’s oversized shopping cart, “Big Red.”

The Save Mart Companies operates more than 200 stores across California, western Nevada, Oregon and Washington under the Save Mart, Lucky, FoodMaxx and Roth’s and Chuck’s Fresh Market banners.
