Schuman Cheese has begun a comprehensive leadership transition, elevating three fourth-generation family members into senior roles 81 years after the company’s founding.
Allison Schuman has been named CEO, moving up from her previous role as chief revenue officer. Neal Schuman, who previously served as CEO, becomes chairman.
Ian Schuman will serve as president of global, overseeing all import and export operations and international growth strategy. Keith Schuman will continue leading domestic production, plant-based initiatives and Lake Country Dairy operations, while also guiding Banyan Seed, the newly established Schuman family office focused on innovation-driven projects across the broader enterprise.
Building on eight decades
Allison Schuman said the transition was designed around governance and continuity rather than change for its own sake.
“This transition is about honoring the foundation that has carried us for more than eight decades while building the leadership structure and governance needed for the future. Our strength has always been our unity as a family and our shared commitment to protecting what makes this company special while responsibly growing it for the generations ahead,” she said.
Ian Schuman framed his mandate around deepening the international relationships the company has cultivated across multiple generations.
“Our relationships with global producers have been built across generations. As we look ahead, we remain committed to deepening those partnerships while responsibly expanding our international footprint,” he said.
Domestic production and innovation
Keith Schuman emphasized that growth in the plant-based and domestic segments will remain tied to the company’s craft identity.
“Innovation has always been part of our story, but it has never come at the expense of craft. Whether strengthening our domestic capabilities or advancing our plant-based portfolio, the focus remains on growing the category in a way that reflects our values. Banyan Seed provides a platform to support strategic initiatives that help expand the reach of the broader Schuman organization,” he said.
Founded in 1945, Schuman Cheese is a family-owned specialty cheese company known for domestic production, imported varieties and a growing plant-based portfolio. The company said the fourth-generation structure is designed to carry the business toward a fifth-generation transition.
