Meijer will open three new stores May 6 – 159,000-square-foot supercenters in Bainbridge Township, Ohio, and Brownsburg, Indiana, and a 47,000-square-foot grocery store in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
The openings bring Meijer’s Ohio store count to 59, Indiana to 44 and add a third grocery location in Michigan, where it has 125 supercenters and market format stores.
Bainbridge Township, Ohio
The location at 7300 Aurora Road sits on the former grounds of Geauga Lake amusement park, a well-known Northeast Ohio landmark.
The full-format supercenter includes bakery, meat, seafood, deli and floral departments, a garden center, apparel and home goods, a full-service drive-thru pharmacy, pet department, electronics, toys and sporting goods.
Todd Anderson, VP of the Ohio region for Meijer, said the location carries commercial and community significance.
“The feedback we’ve received from customers about the value and convenience we offer is consistently positive, and we are excited to bring that experience to … Aurora and Bainbridge Township,” he said.
“Being part of this historic redevelopment at Geauga Lake is an incredible honor, and we look forward to serving customers at this location soon.”
Ohio was the first state Meijer expanded to outside of Michigan. The retailer has some 14,000 employees statewide across stores and its distribution and manufacturing facilities in Tipp City.
Brownsburg, Indiana
The location at 9202 E. 56th St. mirrors the Ohio store in size and department lineup. An adjacent Meijer Express gas station opened April 8.
Jess Murray, VP of the Indiana region for Meijer, said the store was designed with budget-conscious households in mind.
“We know value and convenience are key for our busy customers who are stretching their dollars, and our supercenters are a one-stop-shop that delivers both every day, she said.
“We are excited to join the Brownsburg community and look forward to opening our doors to customers later this spring.
Meijer has operated in Indiana since 1994 and has more than 13,000 employees statewide.
Community partners include Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, the 500 Festival, the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana University athletics, Notre Dame athletics and Purdue University athletics.
Rochester Hills, Michigan
The store at 1495 N. Rochester Road is a streamlined 47,000-square-foot grocery format – much smaller than a standard Meijer supercenter – focused on weekly restocking trips.
The format includes fresh produce, bakery, meat, seafood, deli, a card and floral area, full-service pharmacy, health and beauty care and pet supplies.
Meijer launched the grocery format in 2023 with two Southeast Michigan locations and plans additional sites.
Maureen Mitchell, VP of the East Michigan region for Meijer, said the smaller format meets a different customer need.
“This new Meijer Grocery location represents our continued investment in bringing value and convenience to customers right where they live and work,” she said.
“Designed for convenience, the streamlined format makes it easy for customers to quickly find the fresh food and other essentials they need.”
Meijer has more than 40,000 employees in Michigan. The retailer’s in-state community partners include Gleaners Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, the Detroit Zoo, The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, and the Detroit Lions, Tigers and Red Wings.
