Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc.’s (AWG) Save-A-Label program contributed $106,508 to nonprofits and schools in 2025, supporting 997 organizations across a 17-state footprint.
The program, which has run since 1987, converts UPC labels from AWG’s Best Choice Family of Brands into direct cash donations for qualifying organizations.
How the program works
Shoppers collect UPC labels from Best Choice, Clearly by Best Choice, Pure Wonder by Best Choice, Hello World by Best Choice and Best Choice Superior Selections products and submit them through participating independent retailers. Organizations register for the program, accumulate labels and redeem them for funds.
Participating groups used 2025 distributions for school equipment, youth sports jerseys, food pantry supplies and community outreach programs. Funds reached organizations in Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Community impact
AWG Brands’ VP Emily Detwiler said the results reflect the collective effort of grocers and their shoppers working toward a shared goal.
“By simply saving labels from the Best Choice Family of Brands grocery products, shoppers are making a direct, positive impact. They’re raising money for their schools, churches, and civic groups, while also supporting their local independent grocers that all serve together as the backbones of their communities,” Detwiler said.
To qualify, an organization needs 501(c)(3) status, a community-driven mission and program registration – a low barrier designed to keep participation accessible for smaller community groups.
Looking ahead
Detwiler said AWG intends to build on the program’s momentum heading into 2026.
“Every label represents a commitment to the local community. As we look toward 2026, we are excited to continue this partnership between our independent grocers and the shoppers who help these local non-profits thrive,” she added.
