Ahold Delhaize food security

Ahold Delhaize and its 17 local brands donated more than €250 million through in-kind and financial giving in 2025, benefiting food security and community organizations across Europe, Indonesia and the U.S., the Zaandam, Netherlands-based company announced Feb. 19.

The investment came as 2025 saw persistent inflation, frequent government policy changes and rising food insecurity globally. Global food insecurity has risen for six consecutive years, with more than 295 million people across 53 countries facing acute food insecurity in 2024, according to the 2025 Global Report on Food Crises.

“I’m proud of the solid business results we have shown in 2025, which enables us to fulfill the role we’ve set for ourselves: supporting our local communities,” said Frans Muller, CEO at Ahold Delhaize.

“We work closely with food banks and local partners, leveraging our scale and experience in the food supply chain. At the end of the day, we’re a people business, open for everyone. Our goal is to offer healthy, affordable products and support our communities in ways that truly make a difference.”

U.S. Brands Step Up Direct Relief

Ahold Delhaize’s U.S. brands increased community support amid rising demand for food donations. The Giant Co. donated 20,000 holiday turkeys ahead of Thanksgiving, while Food Lion provided $1.6 million in emergency donations to 32 regional food banks. Hannaford invested more than $1 million to provide direct support to food banks and strengthen programs expanding access to fresh, locally grown food.

The initiatives came as food banks reported significant increases in the number seeking support.

In the Czech Republic, Albert donated its 13th and 14th refrigerated vans to food banks and contributed a record total of 4,345 tons of donated food.

In Belgium, Delhaize’s “GoodCook” program reached more than 70,000 children with workshops on healthy and sustainable nutrition, focusing on the next generation’s eating habits.

Emergency Response in Indonesia

Super Indo provided direct food aid and essential goods to thousands of residents affected by floods and landslides in Sumatra and Aceh in December, demonstrating agility in crisis response.

Strengthened Partnership With Global FoodBanking Network

Ahold Delhaize extended its partnership with The Global FoodBanking Network in 2026 to address food insecurity structurally. Building on years of local collaboration between its brands and community food banks, the partnership strengthens impact at the group level and enables shared learning.

Joint projects with local brands in 2026 will support communities in the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Indonesia and the U.S., reflecting local priorities and delivering benefits. The partnership works to reduce food waste and expand access to surplus food.

With more than 9,400 stores in neighborhoods across Europe, Indonesia and the U.S., Ahold Delhaize and its local brands position themselves at the heart of communities as part of customers’ daily lives.
