During its annual meeting held Jan. 28, the New Jersey Food Council (NJFC) named the 2026 Leadership Development class, comprising 10 young professionals who are poised to chart the future for the “beyond essential” industry of which 9.5 million New Jerseyans rely.

Since 2014, the Leadership Development program has educated NJFC members who have a passion for working in the industry, possess an interest in the dynamics and trends of government, have a commitment to the NJFC and demonstrate great potential for advancement.

“Together, we are not just responding to what’s next, we are helping shape it,” said Jason Read, NJFC chair and director of store operations for Wawa. “We recognize that our future depends on up-and-coming leaders.”

“The program is unique as it focuses on public policy, industry trends, and networking, targeting future leaders in food retail, wholesale, and manufacturing,” explained NJFC President Linda Doherty.

As part of the curriculum, participants meet with state legislators in Trenton, attend meetings with members of Congress in Washington D.C. and engage in networking with industry leaders.

This year, the applicant pool was especially competitive; the 10 class members were invited to the podium at the annual meeting to be introduced to the members. They were welcomed by Jessica Scaduto of Food Circus Foodtown and Matt Lipowski of J&J Snack Foods, both graduates.

“Through the program I gained a deeper understanding of the food council’s work and advocacy efforts,” Scaduto explained. “The experiences it offers are invaluable, equipping participants with the skills and insights needed for leadership roles.”

She noted that some graduates have been elected to the NJFC board or even served as board chair, such as Andrew Kent of Glass Gardens. Others are now leading the council’s committees or paving their own way to make meaningful impacts across the industry.

“Our Leadership Development Program continues to be an incredible opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with inspiring leaders,” Lipowski said. “This year, the applicant pool was filled with so many deserving individuals, making it an honor to be selected.”

The 2026 class includes:

  • Emanuel Disporto, Wakefern Food Corp.;
  • Theresa Larsen, Inserra Supermarkets;
  • Amanda Lawton, Wawa;
  • Dan Levison, Vibal Energy Tea;
  • TJ Manning, JOH;
  • Joe McCarthy, Bimbo Bakeries;
  • Jacky Tang, Pepsico;
  • Billy Tencza, The Campbell’s Co.;
  • Jenn Vannucci, Krasdale Foods; and
  • Dana Ward, Acme Markets.

This year’s class will graduate at the annual “Good Government” breakfast, held by NJFC’s political action committee in October to connect council members with state legislators and other key decision makers.
