Taylor Bros. Construction Co., a Columbus, Indiana-based contractor, has expanded its operations through participation in the Meijer GROW program, which supports local businesses within the Meijer footprint, the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based retailer announced Jan. 27.
The construction company, established in 1933, previously worked on Meijer stores through other general contractors. Through the GROW program, Taylor Bros. now works with Meijer on retail projects across the Midwest.
“We worked on a lot of Meijer stores through other general contractors,” said Tyshaun Allen, VP of operations and partial owner at Taylor Bros. “We were part of the team, just not working with Meijer directly.”
Allen joined Taylor Bros. in 2003 after graduating high school and spent six years in field work before earning a business degree and moving into leadership. He now manages the company’s sales team, supports crews on job sites across state lines and leads expansion into new markets.
Taylor Bros. specializes in flexible construction services including door and locker installation, millwork, casework, concrete pads, fencing and parking lot striping.
“Some of the projects we take on are the ones a lot of people don’t want,” Allen said. “But that’s where we shine. We’ve always wanted to bring value – and part of that means still having people who can physically do the work, not just manage it.”
The direct partnership with Meijer has helped Taylor Bros. scale operations, expand into new markets and invest in its workforce.
“Meijer has been extremely helpful and intentional in the way they’ve worked with us,” Allen said. “They’ve taken time to answer questions, get on calls and even invite us back to headquarters when we need deeper conversations. That kind of support isn’t common.”
Allen advises other small or diverse-owned contractors considering partnerships with Meijer to pursue the opportunity.
“Go for it,” Allen said. “Meijer has created a culture where businesses like ours can grow and be heard. You don’t always find that with national brands – but you find it here.”
The Meijer GROW program helps local businesses build long-term success through direct relationships with the retailer.
