BJ’s Wholesale Club is set to open its second BJ’s Market location on Jan. 30, marking the expansion of the retailer’s small-format concept designed to offer warehouse club value in smaller, more convenient locations.
The 55,000-square-foot store – at 14595 South Military Trail in Delray Beach, Florida – is about half the size of a traditional BJ’s club. It will feature what company executives describe as a “quick shopping experience” focused on essential fresh foods, produce, sundries and seasonal products.
The location is not far from full-size BJ’s Wholesale Clubs in Boynton Beach, Parkland, Royal Palm Beach and Coral Springs.
“BJ’s Market is perfect for families making a weeknight grocery run or a fast weekend trip between games and activities,” said Bill Werner, EVP of strategy and development for BJ’s Wholesale Club, headquartered in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
The Market concept, which BJ’s introduced in 2022 in Warwick, Rhode Island, addresses consumer demand for convenient shopping options without sacrificing the bulk purchasing and value proposition of warehouse clubs.
Various pack sizes will be available at BJ’s Market, ranging from individual salad kits and half-gallons of milk to bulk paper goods and cleaning products. The store also will feature sliced-to-order deli products and multipacks of pantry staples.
Online shopping part of store model
BJ’s Market locations have the same digital offerings as the company’s full-sized clubs, including curbside pickup, same-day delivery in eligible ZIP codes and ExpressPay checkout technology.
Current BJ’s members will have immediate access to the new location, while new members who sign up will gain full access to all BJ’s stores and gas stations.
To celebrate the opening, the company is offering founding member promotions starting at $15 for a one-year basic membership with BJ’s Easy Renewal, with Club+ membership available for $50 annually.
Community support also part of model
The location will partner with Feeding South Florida, donating produce, meat, dairy products and other items.
“Through our ongoing partnership with BJ’s Wholesale Club, we’re able to continue providing access to nutritious food for families in our community,” said Paco Vélez, president and CEO of Feeding South Florida. “We’re grateful for the commitment and support of BJ’s as we lead hunger advocacy efforts in South Florida.”
BJ’s debuted its warehouse club model in New England in 1984 and currently operates 261 clubs and 198 BJ’s Gas locations in 21 states.
