The 10,000-square-foot small-format store Gelson’s will open Jan. 28 at Riverside Drive and Mariota Avenue in Toluca Lake, California, will serve as the centerpiece of a mixed-use development that includes 37 studio apartments.
Toluca Lake is known for its tree-lined streets, historic homes and proximity to entertainment landmarks like Warner Bros. Studios. The area blends old Hollywood glamour with a modern, family-friendly atmosphere.
Full-service amenities in compact footprint
The store will feature self-checkout stations, a curated wine cellar with local and exclusive selections, fresh on-the-go options, a hot food bar and a service kitchen creating gourmet salads and seasonal entrées.
A Roman-style pizza counter will serve made-to-order slices, while a Thrifty Ice Cream counter will offer nostalgic favorites. The full-service coffee bar will feature artisan breads, pastries and desserts.
Additional amenities include a floral department with seasonal arrangements, a poke bar, full meat and seafood counters and fresh produce and organic groceries.

AI technology reduces food waste
Through a partnership with Upshop, the store uses artificial intelligence-powered inventory tools to reduce food waste and improve forecasting, ensuring shelves are stocked efficiently while minimizing environmental impact.
The location offers street-level parking and features a design that blends modern architecture with warm, natural materials.
