Joel Rampoldt is no longer CEO of Lidl U.S., the discount grocery chain confirmed Jan. 22.
Rampoldt, who held the position since 2023, is now serving as an advisor to the German-owned company, a spokesperson for the discounter said in an emailed statement.
Marco Giudici, Lidl U.S.’s chief customer officer and former CEO of Lidl Romania, will lead the discounter as interim CEO.
Rampoldt stepped into the Lidl U.S. CEO role in mid-2023 after serving as partner and managing director of consulting firm AlixPartners. He was the fifth person to assume the CEO role since the discounter established its U.S. operations in 2015.
The leadership change comes as Lidl approaches nearly 200 stores across nine East Coast states. The company has focused its expansion efforts on New York City, Atlanta and the District of Columbia region, including Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.
Rampoldt served as the keynote speaker at PLMA‘s 2025 Annual Private Label Trade Show, held Nov. 16-18 in Chicago. In his address, Rampoldt emphasized the company’s strong partnerships with suppliers, noting that the company “invests” in them.
