Food City is expanding its store on Highway 394 in Blountville, Tennessee, adding more than 7,000 square feet of retail space that will increase the total footprint to nearly 50,500 square feet.
The project, which is scheduled to wrap up this fall, will create 40 new jobs.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to enlarge the Blountville Food City to accommodate some exciting new services and conveniences … our team is working hard to ensure the least amount of interruption to our customers,” said Steven C. Smith, president and CEO.
The project includes the addition of several amenities, including a Starbucks café offering an assortment of beverages, breakfast sandwiches and pastries.
The produce and food service departments will nearly double in size to incorporate new services, including a sit-down café, fresh food bar featuring a variety of soup, salad and fruit selections, hickory wood smoker, sushi, expanded cheese shop, popcorn and a fireplace.
The pharmacy is relocating to a larger space and will be equipped with a walk-up window. The floral department and fresh meat cases also are being expanded to make way for more variety and selection.
“I would like to thank our loyal customers for their understanding and patience during the construction process,” said Brad Slagle, longtime store manager. “I think they will agree that these exciting new services will be well worth the wait.”
Food City’s parent company, K-VA-T Food Stores, operates 164 retail outlets throughout southeastern Kentucky, southwestern Virginia, East Tennessee, North Georgia and Alabama. The company is headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia.
