Food City has begun a partnership with Virginia’s American Revolution 250 Commission to support the VA250 Mobile Museum Experience, pledging $100,000 to the project.
The mobile museum tells the story of Virginia’s role in the American Revolution, from Patrick Henry’s 1775 “Give me Liberty, or Give me Death” speech to Gen. George Washington’s victory at the Siege of Yorktown in 1781. The new museum includes content specific to Southwest Virginia’s heritage.
“As we prepare to celebrate American’s Semiquincentennial, Food City is excited to partner with VA250 in support of this exciting project,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and CEO.
“The Mobile Museum Experience will provide consumers and students an opportunity to learn more about the vital role that Virginia played in America’s rich history in a vibrant and engaging format that really brings these stories to life.”
The VA250 Mobile Museum Experience will visit select Virginia Food City locations throughout the year, offering free guided tours to consumers during these events. Additional details on specific locations and dates will be announced later.
The museum also is scheduled to host events at every Virginia middle school in the region over the next two years, providing educational programming tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
“We are grateful to Food City for their support of the Mobile Museum,” said Cheryl Wilson, executive director of VA250.
“As we approach our nation’s 250th anniversary, it’s so important for Virginians to understand the Commonwealth’s role in the fight for independence. The Mobile Museum is an incredible resource, providing a remarkable way to learn from, engage with and be inspired by not only the ideas and ideals put forth 250 years ago but also the stories of the people that ‘blazed a trail’ for countless Virginians to make a difference in their communities across the Commonwealth in the subsequent generations.”
The mobile museum experience is titled “Out of Many, One: The VA250 Mobile Museum Experience” and highlights the contributions of all Virginians to American independence during the Revolutionary War period.
