Amazon has introduced a redesigned version of its Dash Cart smart shopping cart, rolling out the updated technology at select Whole Foods Market stores with plans to expand to dozens of the banner’s locations across the U.S. by the end of 2026.
The latest Dash Cart generation incorporates features developed from customer feedback aimed at enhancing the in-store grocery experience, improving convenience and helping shoppers save time and money. It is in use at stores in McKinney, Texas; Reston, Virginia; and Westford, Massachusetts.
One of the key enhancements is a built-in screen that displays real-time pricing and spending totals, allowing customers to keep a running tally of purchases as they shop. The screen also integrates interactive store maps and personalized deals, enabling users to make more informed decisions while navigating aisles.
Shoppers can skip traditional checkout lines using the redesigned onboard scanner, which is positioned next to the display for improved responsiveness. Once shopping is complete, customers can roll through a designated Dash Cart lane to process payment automatically.
The updated Dash Cart also offers expanded payment options, including credit cards, mobile payments and linked Amazon account methods, giving customers greater flexibility at checkout.
Compared with earlier iterations, the new Dash Cart also is 25 percent lighter and offers 40 percent more capacity.
Additional features include a built-in produce scale that works in conjunction with sensors and cameras to ensure accurate pricing and eliminate the need for separate in-store weighing stations.
