SpartanNash recently celebrated the grand opening of its first small-format Supermercado Nuestra Familia at 2323 L St. in Omaha, Nebraska.
At nearly 14,000 square feet, the store offers authentic Hispanic products – from fresh meats and pastries to traditional spices – and cultural experiences shoppers expect with the benefit of convenience.
The store is located near schools and along a bus route, offering access to quick shopping trips.
“Our newest Supermercado Nuestra Familia location reflects how we’re reimagining the grocery experience making it faster and easier for families on the go, while still offering the authentic products and traditions that connect communities,” said Jay Mahabir, VP of retail operations, SpartanNash.
“Our L Street location meets the evolving needs of our store guests while showcasing who we are as a food solutions company.”
Features of the small-format Supermercado Nuestra Familia include:
- Expanded bakery selection with tres leches cakes, gelatins, flans and other traditional favorites;
- Hispanic produce, meat, grocery and dairy products;
- Fresh fruits, vegetables and dried chiles and spices;
- Aguas frescas and horchata prepared daily;
- Fresh-cut produce options to simplify meal preparation;
- Full-service carnicería with trimmed meats; and
- Hot food staples in the deli such as tamales, enchiladas, beans and rice.
“We’re excited to start 2026 by further strengthening our ties to the Omaha community,” said Robert Newsom, store director. “This new location was designed with families in mind – easy to reach, quick to shop and filled with the authentic Hispanic products our store guests love.”
The grand-opening celebration featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local leaders and community partners, followed by special deals, giveaways and family-friendly entertainment. To mark the occasion, a $5,000 check was presented to South High School.
With three Omaha locations at the start of 2025, Supermercado Nuestra Familia has since doubled in size, adding two stores in Omaha and expanding in December to Topeka, Kansas.
