As part of an annual giving challenge, United Supermarkets and Smart Chicken partnered to deliver 4,120 pounds of chicken to the South Plains Food Bank, contributing protein to help alleviate food insecurity in that region of Texas.

The donation is tied to the 25th Annual Smart Giving program, an initiative in which 10 percent of all Smart Chicken bought at United Supermarkets during November – equating to one pound donated for every 10 pounds bought – is pledged to the food bank.
Over the years, the program has generated tens of thousands of pounds of chicken for food assistance partners across the area.
“We are so thankful for the opportunity to partner with Smart Chicken to bring this donation to the South Plains Food Bank,” said Tony Crumpton, chief marketing and merchandising officer for The United Family.
“We couldn’t be prouder to support the work of the SPFB. What they do across the region to fight food insecurity is truly invaluable.”
Mark Bozeman, account manager for Smart Chicken, which offers a range of fresh chicken products, emphasized the company’s commitment to giving back to the communities where its products are sold, along with a focus on quality, responsible practices and animal welfare.
According to the food bank, protein donations are particularly valuable because they help ensure balanced, nutritious meals for families served through its programs. The nonprofit offers a range of hunger-relief services – including food boxes, children’s feeding programs and mobile pantry distributions – to communities across 19 counties.
“Protein donations are hard for any food bank to secure due to cost and availability,” said Dina Jeffries, CEO of the food bank. “We are so appreciative of this quality protein donation because it is not just meeting the needs of feeding people, but it is helping to provide nourishment for wellness.”
