Grubhub’s latest “2025 Delivered Trend Report” shows that U.S. consumers embraced what the company describes as the Foodmaxxing Era in 2025, a shift in ordering behavior that emphasizes meals, snacks, drinks and groceries designed for maximum nutritional value, functional benefit and visual appeal for social sharing.
The annual report analyzes millions of orders placed across the Grubhub platform and identifies emerging ordering trends that go beyond flavor alone. According to Grubhub, consumers this year showed a strong preference for items that deliver both taste and practical payoff, from energy support to gut health and protein goals.
A standout pattern from the report was significant growth in grocery orders for beans — a key Foodmaxxing indicator — with orders jumping 135 percent, totaling more than 1.5 tons of legumes delivered nationwide. Grubhub said dense bean salads and similar dishes gained traction as wellness-oriented, shareable options.
Traditional pantry fare also saw renewed interest as part of the trend. Orders for tinned fish reportedly tripled in 2025, with grocery purchases up 209 percent year over year, reflecting the platform’s expanded role in delivering nutrient-dense, protein-rich foodstuffs.
The report also highlighted continued popularity of high-protein restaurant items. Grubhub said diners ordered more than 750 chicken nuggets, tenders and strips per hour throughout the year – equating to roughly 5.2 million pieces – and noted that in major markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia, 76 percent of all chicken orders included nuggets.
Grubhub’s 2025 Delivered Trend Report underscores a broader shift in consumer behavior where nutritional optimization and functionality are becoming as important as flavor and convenience in food delivery and grocery orders.
