DoorDash adds new grocers to delivery platform.

DoorDash has announced a new grocery shopping app integrated into ChatGPT, enabling customers to turn recipe inspiration into complete grocery orders delivered from local stores – with delivery potentially as fast as one hour.

The partnership with OpenAI represents a significant expansion of DoorDash’s services into AI-enabled retail commerce.

The new DoorDash app embedded in ChatGPT is designed to meet users where they seek inspiration and help streamline the transition from meal planning to grocery shopping. According to DoorDash, many customers increasingly turn to ChatGPT for recipes, meal ideas and cooking guidance – and the integration aims to close the loop by enabling users to build a grocery cart and complete checkout without leaving the chat.

DoorDash said the grocery selection available through the ChatGPT app spans nationwide retailers like Kroger and Safeway, as well as regional grocers including Bi-Rite, Schnucks, Fairway Markets and Wegmans. The company said the integration helps users avoid time spent compiling lists and making store trips by delivering ingredients to their door.

“AI is unlocking an entirely new search and discovery experience for consumers that’s dynamic and personalized,” said Andy Fang, co-founder at DoorDash.

“We’re thrilled to partner with OpenAI to create a seamless experience that allows users to quickly order ingredients for any recipe and check out directly on DoorDash. As we expand this experience to more shopping categories, our focus is on building AI tools that give people time back and make local shopping easier.”

Nick Turley, VP and head of ChatGPT, said, “The DoorDash app in ChatGPT is another step toward bringing our vision to life – where AI connects directly to real-world services, saving people time and effort in their everyday lives.”

Functionality and availability

According to the release, users can enable the DoorDash app within ChatGPT by selecting it in the “Apps” section of account settings, logging in to their DoorDash account and toggling the feature in a chat. Once active, ChatGPT can help users generate meal suggestions and then convert the necessary ingredients into a shoppable grocery list.

The DoorDash app in ChatGPT is available to select users and will expand to all customers in the coming weeks on iOS, Android, desktop and mobile web, bringing grocery ordering directly into conversational AI workflows.

DoorDash said the integration also expands opportunities for local merchants by connecting them with customers during moments of meal planning and recipe discovery. The company plans to build on the ChatGPT partnership by expanding into additional local retail categories beyond groceries, further embedding conversational AI into the shopping experience.
