Fareway Stores Inc. has broken ground on a new location in Coal Valley, Illinois, marking the beginning of construction on a 17,000-square-foot store at 1st Street and Route 6 that is slated for completion next fall.
“Communities depend on a local grocer to offer high-quality products at affordable prices with unmatched service,” said Fareway CEO Reynolds W. Cramer. “We look forward to bringing these qualities to Coal Valley and area residents with a new Fareway store.
“We also appreciate the support of city officials and local leaders in making this project possible.”
The Coal Valley store will feature Fareway’s full-service meat department with butchers, fresh produce and customer service that includes to-the-car carryout. FastLanes self-service checkout, online shopping and curbside pickup also will be available.
Coal Valley Mayor Michael Bartels said the groundbreaking represented a major milestone for the village.
“Today is a significant day for Coal Valley. I’m truly grateful for our community and excited that this moment has finally arrived,” Bartels said.
“My thanks go to the Fareway team, Village Administrator Penny Mullen, the Village Board and our residents for their support and confidence in this project. Together, we’re bringing a full-service, quality grocery store that will benefit Coal Valley for many years to come.”
