Rouses Markets has entered into an agreement to acquire 10 Winn-Dixie locations in Louisiana and Mississippi from Southeastern Grocers, parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket, with the changeover expected to be complete in early 2026.

“We are proud to welcome these stores, their team members and their customers into the Rouses Markets family,” said Donny Rouse Jr., third-generation CEO.
“These locations in New Orleans East, Destrehan, Franklinton, Gramercy and Central, Louisiana, and Hattiesburg, Mississippi, are all areas we have looked at for a long time.
“We are also strengthening our presence in Marrero, Covington, Mandeville and Kenner, which continue to grow and are important markets for us. Our goal is to make it easier for more customers to shop with us close to home.”
The company is planning major remodels at the Hattiesburg and Central stores and will begin developing those plans after the transition.
The projects will include upgrades to store layouts, equipment and design to reflect the Rouses Markets shopping experience and expanded emphasis on fresh departments. All 10 stores will be remodeled over the next few years.
Southeastern Grocers recently announced it will become The Winn-Dixie Co. in early 2026, uniting under one brand with a renewed focus on Florida, and has made the decision to transition ownership of most of its locations outside of Florida.
As these 10 locations convert to Rouses Markets, stores will temporarily close for a short time before reopening under the Rouses banner. Rouses is encouraging all Winn-Dixie employees to stay on.
“Our goal is to make this transition as smooth as possible,” Rouse said. “The team members who know these stores and their customers best are an important part of what makes them successful.”
With the addition of the 10 locations, Rouses Markets will operate 76 stores across Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
“Community is at the heart of everything we do,” said Donald Rouse Sr., chairman of Rouses Markets. “These stores have been an important part of their neighborhoods for years, and we are honored to continue that legacy.
“Rouses Markets is committed to investing in these markets through great food and service, jobs, local partnerships and long-term growth.”
