Cub Foods, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UNFI, will contribute more than $200,000 during the holiday season in monetary and in-kind support to more than 50 Minnesota food banks and nonprofits.

“At Cub, we believe in doing more than just providing great food at a great value – we believe in strengthening the communities we call home,” said David Best, president and CEO of retail, UNFI.

“Supporting our friends and neighbors in need, especially during the holiday season, is a part of who we are. For nearly 60 years, Cub has been proud to serve Minnesotans and give back to our communities.”

During November and December, Cub will donate about 1.5 million pounds of food to Minnesota families in need through its Food Rescue program. In partnership with Minnesota-area organizations, this program will support more than 50 community food banks and pantries that are providing meals for Minnesota families this holiday season.

Combined with the generosity of its customers and team members, Cub Foods also will provide support to a number of organizations this fall and winter, including:

  • Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank – On Nov. 5, Cub donated $50,000 and in-kind donations of more than 47,000 pounds of food to support Minnesota families who have been affected by SNAP benefits cuts. Throughout November, customers can support Second Harvest Heartland and its local affiliate food banks through $5 and $10 donation bags at checkout.
  • The Salvation Army – Through Dec. 24, red kettles will be placed at all Cub locations, gathering donations for those facing food insecurity. Cub Foods will match donations up to $25,000.
  • Holiday Bucks – Throughout November and December, customers also may donate Holiday Bucks at checkout in $1, $3, $5 or round up amounts. These funds are used to purchase holiday meals, turkeys and hams for local families in need.
  • Community Thread – This fall, Cub Foods is donating $10,000 in Cub gift cards to Community Thread, a nonprofit supporting disadvantaged Minnesota families. The donation will help fund Community Thread’s Holiday Hope program, which offers holiday meals and assistance to those experiencing financial hardship in central Washington County.
  • Turkey donations and Turkey Drives – This holiday season, Cub Foods also will contribute more than 4,000 turkeys and/or holiday meals to under-resourced families through the company’s charitable partners, including Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank, Bolder Options, Tubman, The Camden Promise, Reflections, M Health Fairview Health Hub, Ronald McDonald House, HopeKids and more local food banks.
  • Folds of Honor– In partnership with Anheuser-Busch, Cub Wine & Spirits/Cub Liquor shoppers can make donations at checkout in $1, $3, $5 or round up amounts to support Folds of Honor. Cub Foods will match donations up to $10,000.

“We are grateful for the generosity of our customers and team members who continue to support our non-profit partners and positively impact our communities,” Best said. “We look forward to continuing our commitment to building stronger communities year-round.”
