H-E-B San Marcos

H-E-B has broken ground on its third store in San Marcos, Texas, located at Interstate 35 and McCarty Lane.

“We are always looking for growth opportunities to better serve our customers. This is a project we have had in the works for years, and we look forward to serving even more customers in this growing part of Texas with the best H-E-B has to offer,” said Cathy Harm, H-E-B’s SVP of Central Texas Region.

The 114,000-square-foot store will feature an expanded product selection, along with pharmacy pick-up spaces, curbside area with parking and an H-E-B Fresh Bites convenience store with fuel station and car wash. The store will also include the city’s first True Texas BBQ restaurant.

The store is expected to open around fall 2026.

Other amenities will include:

  • Full-service bakery and tortilleria that offers a selection of artisan breads, fresh tortillas and large varieties of desserts, pastries and cakes;
  • Deli featuring a large assortment of cheese and charcuterie;
  • Beer and wine department with sampling station and a variety of local, national and international labels;
  • Wide selection of organic foods and an expanded Healthy Living department;
  • Blooms floral area with customer arrangements and floral décor items;
  • Full-service meat market and seafood counter;
  • Meal Simple area with chef-inspired options for meal planning;
  • Sushiya offering handmade sushi and hot selections made in-store daily; and
  • Texas Front Porch, offering products for grilling, gardening and outdoor entertaining.

The True Texas BBQ will serve all-natural meats smoked in-house over Texas oak wood, as well as sides such as brisket beans, creamed corn and homestyle potato salad.

To commemorate the groundbreaking, H-E-B donated $20,000 to four local nonprofits with $5,000 each going to the Hays County Food Bank, The Meadows City for Water and the Environment, San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance and San Marcos Education Foundation.

When the retailer originally announced plans for the store, it also announced $5,000 donations each to Hays Co. Food Bank and City of San Marcos Police Department.
