Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) is donating $500,000 to food banks across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma to help meet rising community needs during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Funds will help food banks provide meals for families facing increased food insecurity as a result of the temporary pause in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
“Our company was founded on the core value of serving our communities, and that commitment remains strong today,” said Brad Brookshire, chairman and CEO of BGC.
“We recognize the challenges many families are facing, especially during this time of increased need, and we are honored to support the food banks that are on the front lines of hunger relief.”
In addition to the corporate donation, BGC has launched its annual holiday food drives earlier than scheduled to provide additional support.
Through Dec. 16, customers at all Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, FRESH by Brookshire’s, Reasor’s and FRESH by Reasor’s locations can donate at checkout using scan coupons. All funds collected will be distributed to local service organizations and food pantries.
Family-owned and headquartered in Tyler, Texas, Brookshire Grocery Co. operates more than 217 stores with over 17,000 employees in four states under the banners Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, FRESH by Brookshire’s, Reasor’s and FRESH by Reasor’s.
