Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) is donating $500,000 to local food banks across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma to help meet rising community needs during the ongoing government shutdown.
The donation underscores BGC’s continued commitment to hunger relief and to supporting the communities it serves. Funds will help food banks provide meals for families facing increased food insecurity as a result of the temporary pause in federal SNAP benefits.
“Our company was founded on the core value of serving our communities, and that commitment remains strong today,” said Brad Brookshire, chairman and CEO of BGC. “We recognize the challenges many families are facing, especially during this time of increased need, and we are honored to support the food banks that are on the front lines of hunger relief.”
The contribution comes at a critical time as food banks across the region experience record demand. BGC’s donation will help bridge the meal gap and ensure that essential resources continue to reach those most affected.
In addition to the corporate donation, BGC has launched its annual holiday food drives earlier than scheduled to provide additional support. Through Dec. 16, customers at all Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, FRESH by Brookshire’s, Reasor’s and FRESH by Reasor’s locations can donate at checkout using scan coupons. All funds collected will be distributed to local service organizations and food pantries to help feed families in need during the holiday season.
Family-owned and headquartered in Tyler, Texas, Brookshire Grocery Co. operates more than 217 stores with over 17,000 employee-partners in four states under the banners Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, FRESH by Brookshire’s, Reasor’s and FRESH by Reasor’s.
Certified as a Great Place to Work since 2020, BGC continues to invest in its employee-partners through professional development, comprehensive health benefits, paid time off, stock ownership, a 401(k) plan, scholarships and an emergency relief fund.
