Publix Super Markets Charities (PSMC) is donating $250,000 to the American Red Cross fund specifically designated to help support relief efforts after Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage in the Caribbean.
“We extend our sympathies to the families that have been devastated by the loss of life and damage caused by this hurricane,” said Publix Charities Executive Director John Doran. “We know firsthand the challenges a community faces after a hurricane. Many Publix associates also have friends and family in the affected areas, so we felt moved to take action.”
Hurricane Melissa made landfall as a Category 5 storm with top winds of 185 mph, making it one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record and leaving behind catastrophic damage.
PSMC’s donation will help bring water, food and other basic supplies to people affected by the disaster.
