Balls Food Stores, one of the largest locally owned grocery operators in the Kansas City area, has expanded its footprint with the acquisition of Schulte’s Fresh Foods in Jefferson City, Missouri.

The grocery store will continue to operate under the Schulte’s Fresh Foods name, maintaining its longstanding reputation for quality, service, and community connection.

“Schulte’s Fresh Foods has built an incredible reputation as a hometown grocery store,” said David Ball, president of Balls Food Stores. “Their dedication to guests and to the Jefferson City community aligns perfectly with our company’s values. We’re excited to build on that foundation and continue delivering the high-quality products and personal service that local shoppers have come to know and trust.”

This acquisition represents a significant milestone in Balls Food Stores’ ongoing growth strategy. As a 100-percent teammate-owned company, Balls Food Stores reinvests directly into its people and the communities it serves – keeping dollars local and promoting long-term regional stability.

Customers at Schulte’s can expect the same friendly faces and service they’ve always enjoyed, along with expanded offerings in the future. Plans include more fresh and local products, enhanced technology for convenience and new digital savings programs and rewards.

“Like Schulte’s, we believe grocery stores should be about more than food – they’re about relationships,” Ball said. “We’re honored to carry forward the Schulte family’s legacy and welcome their teammates into our family of owners.”
