Kenny Family ShopRites

Kenny Family ShopRites of Delaware is celebrating its 30th anniversary Oct. 13 with the unveiling of a community mural on its store at 501 S. Walnut St. in Wilmington.

A video documenting the creation of the mural can be viewed here.

Members of the Kenny family and store team will be joined by local Delaware artist Christian Kanienberg of Wish Unlimited, who created the mural in collaboration with the city. Visible to visitors driving into town, the artwork celebrates the spirit, diversity and resilience of Wilmington.

The event also will launch Kenny Family ShopRites’ 30th anniversary festivities, featuring special giveaways and promotions at its ShopRite stores in the state throughout the week.

“Serving the community is what inspires and drives us, and we are so proud to run our ShopRite stores and our business in Delaware. We want to celebrate 30 years by saying thank you to our store teams and our customers, and we think this beautiful mural is one way to do that,” said Melissa Kenny, EVP of Kenny Family ShopRites.

Kanienberg also partnered with the Kennys for the company’s 25th anniversary, creating a mural honoring Delaware farmers on the ShopRite at 1st State Plaza.

Since 1995, Kenny Family ShopRites of Delaware has grown to more than 900 employees across six locations, with nearly 10,000 state residents shopping consistently with the company for three decades.

It has numerous programs and benefits for its employees, including tuition discounts, scholarship opportunities, special associate events, training and mentorship programs.

Partnerships with organizations such as the National Association of Mental Illness and PACE recovery center also help ensure associates have the necessary resources for any non-work, personal or health-related issues.

Community partners include Autism Delaware, Easter Seals, Delaware Food Bank, Delaware Department of Corrections, Brandywine School District, William Penn High School, Delaware National Guard, the Ministry of Caring, the City of Wilmington Youth Career Development and sustainability and environmental programs such as Keep Delaware Beautiful.

In 2008, the Kenny Family Foundation was created to invest in well-being to improve the quality of life and create a sustainable future for Wilmington and New Castle County, helping underserved communities, sustainable initiatives and arts and education projects.

The company and foundation have collectively donated more than $6 million in charitable contributions to 1,000 local organizations since 1995.
