In honor of World Food Day on Oct. 16Natural Grocers will host an in-store fundraising campaign benefiting The Cornucopia Institute. The company has pledged to donate 1 percent of sales from all stores nationwide, with a goal of raising more than $45,000 for the nonprofit.

Customers are invited to shop at their local Natural Grocers on Oct. 16 in support of World Food Day. The funds raised will support The Cornucopia Institute’s mission to safeguard the integrity of organic labeling, production, processing and marketing.

“World Food Day is a meaningful reminder that the choices we make at the grocery store can have a real impact on people, the planet and the future of food. We’re proud to support The Cornucopia Institute and help ensure organic integrity for generations to come,” said Raquel Isely, VP of marketing at Natural Grocers.

The Cornucopia Institute is a 21-year-old nonprofit watchdog for organic food and a trusted messenger for organic advocates who want to align their purchases with their values. Through its consumer tools, policy work and investigations into the organic marketplace, Cornucopia advocates for an organic label consumers and retailers can trust.

Organic shoppers and community grocers play a critical role in charitable giving to the nonprofit, which serves both audiences by going behind the labels to bring transparency to the farming practices and ownership structures of organic brands.

“Thanks to the generosity of Natural Grocers, organic shoppers can invest their food dollars to heal people and the planet,” said Cornucopia Executive Director Melody Morrell. “Together, we are driving demand for the best organic food, ensuring tomorrow’s innovative organic brands have a chance and keeping dedicated organic farmers on the land.”
