Forty Acres Fresh Market has begun a new partnership with Foodsmart, a telenutrition and foodcare solution, to launch a Nutrition Corner in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood along the Soul City Corridor, providing customers with practical tools and services to support healthier eating.
The Nutrition Corner will feature nutrition education resources, recipe cards and information on SNAP and other food access programs. A community health outreach coordinator will staff the Nutrition Corner, answering questions about Foodsmart’s platform and connecting eligible customers to registered dietitians for personalized support.
Foodsmart and Forty Acres Fresh Market also will collaborate on food demos, cooking classes and other experiential programming to empower customers with practical skills for healthier living.
“This partnership is about more than groceries, it’s about creating a business model where access to healthy food and nutrition education are built in,” said Liz Abunaw, founder of Forty Acres Fresh Market.
“This is about building a vibrant food retail experience for our Austin community. Since 2018 – through pop‑ups, farmers markets and delivery – I’ve worked to close the distance between people and good food. Now, with Foodsmart in-store, we’re layering in real nutrition support (registered dietitian visits, SNAP enrollment support and cooking classes) so our customers get more than groceries, they get tools that make healthy choices feel practical and empowering.”
Foodsmart, which works with more than 3 million members nationwide, integrates nutrition education, meal planning and food access into a single foodcare platform. Through the partnership, Forty Acres Fresh Market shoppers will have the opportunity to engage with Foodsmart’s full ecosystem – registered dietitian visits and personalized meal planning to SNAP/WIC registration and tools that stretch grocery budgets – from the store.
“This partnership shows what’s possible when local businesses and national health innovators work together,” said Jennifer McGuire, chief customer experience officer at Foodsmart.
“Liz and Forty Acres bring the place, the people and the trust. We’re here to support her vision with resources and clinical expertise. By embedding foodcare and nutrition support directly into the grocery shopping experience, we’re creating a model that can be replicated in communities across the country.”
The Forty Acres Fresh Market grocery store at 5713 West Chicago Ave. in Chicago, Illinois, showcases how neighborhood-based businesses and national platforms can work together to expand food access and improve community health without compromising economic sustainability.
