The Kroger Co. is partnering with first responders across the U.S. in September to mark Hunger Action Month with “Heroes Fight Hunger,” a company-led food drive to benefit area food banks and pantries.

At select Kroger locations, customers can donate nonperishable items such as peanut butter, pasta, canned fruit and vegetables, shelf-stable milk, rice and granola bars.

“Access to nutritious food is essential to our communities, and Kroger remains committed to our mission of ending hunger and expanding access to fresh, affordable food for everyone,” said Keith Dailey, Kroger’s group VP of corporate affairs.

“We’re proud to stand alongside first responders, the everyday heroes who serve and protect our neighborhoods, in the fight against hunger. Heroes Fight Hunger is a powerful reminder that when we come together, we can make an impact for those who need it most.”

Hunger Action Month, organized annually by Feeding America, encourages people across the nation to raise awareness and take part in hunger-relief efforts.

Kroger has been a Feeding America partner since 2017, directing more than 3.9 billion meals to communities and contributing $1.8 billion in food and funds to hunger relief.

Kroger’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation is also activating its annual Hunger Action Month campaign. Throughout September, shoppers at Kroger Family of Stores can round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, with proceeds benefiting Feeding America’s network of food banks. Last year, the campaign raised more than $432,000.

Feeding America is the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization, with a network of more than 200 food banks, 21 statewide food bank associations and 60,000 partner agencies.
