The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation celebrated its Sprouting Healthy Communities Day on Sept. 6, with all 450 of the grocer’s locations hosting live in-store check presentations, awarding $3.3 million in donations to more than 550 local nonprofit partners and schools.
“This in-store event created a powerful moment of connection across the country as our team members came together with local partners to support children, families, and healthier communities,” said Dustin Hamilton, chief stores officer of Phoenix-based Sprouts Farmers Market.

The $5,000-$10,000 grants are designed to strengthen programs that provide children and families with greater access to nutrition education, school gardens, cooking classes and wellness opportunities. Collectively, the programs are expected to reach an estimated one million children and adults this year.
The donations presented in-store are part of the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation’s grants program announced in May.
Grants are funded in part by donations collected from customers when they round up their bills to support local children’s nutrition education programs.
“Our customers are right by our side helping to make these programs possible, and some of them even nominated the nonprofits that we supported in these grants,” said Lyndsey Waugh, executive director of the foundation.
