ShopRite Partners In Caring is kicking off its annual Cheerios Contest, a fundraiser that features stores across its six-state operating area vying to raise the most funds for local food banks through Oct. 4.
The locations that collect the most money will have their associates’ photos featured on a special Cheerios cereal box in March.
Over the past 25 years, ShopRite Partners In Caring has become ShopRite’s signature hunger-fighting initiative, raising nearly $65 million to support more than 2,500 local charities.
“We are committed to fighting food insecurity because our stores are family-owned by grocers who are in the communities their stores operate,” said Alexandra Emery, manager of sustainability and corporate social responsibility for New Jersey-based ShopRite.
“We want our customers to know we are here, and this contest is a meaningful way to bring people together and make a real difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity.”
Shoppers can look for special store fundraisers. Donations to ShopRite Partners In Caring can be made at checkout during the fundraising period, which also overlaps with Hunger Action Month in September.
About ShopRite Partners In Caring
ShopRite Partners In Caring is a year-round, community-based, hunger-fighting initiative that works with more than 50 food industry manufacturers to provide $3 million annually to qualified charitable agencies in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The effort supports emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, childcare centers, battered women’s homes, senior citizen programs, drug rehab centers, programs for the mentally and physically disabled, after-school programs and other organizations that aid those in need.
The ShopRite Partners In Caring Fund was established in 2002 as a component fund of the Community Foundation of New Jersey to accept private donations that help fund its charitable endeavors.
