“Pavilions is a testing ground for a lot of new and innovative items for the entire division,” said Wayne Heaton, VP and GM of the Pavilions banner. Together with Albertsons and Vons banner stores, they form Albertsons’ 329-store Southern California division.

“If something works in Pavilions, there may be 100 stores in the other two banners that it may work in as well,” Heaton said. “But we’re a testing ground, and there’s no better person to run that testing run in grocery than Cher Cech.”

Cech serves as grocery sales manager for Pavilions. She ensures each store is on the cutting edge of introducing innovative new products while maintaining reliable stock of the everyday essentials guests count on.

In terms of new products, Cech is “very, very good at leading new and emerging brands through the process of getting on the shelf,” Heaton said.

Cech is glad to fill this role.

“One of the most fulfilling aspects of my role is mentoring emerging brands as they navigate the complexities of retail,” she said. “It’s incredibly rewarding to witness a small, passionate company evolving from a local startup to a nationally recognized brand. Many of these entrepreneurs have invested their entire lives into their products, and playing even a small part in their success story is deeply meaningful.

“It’s a privilege to help bring their vision to life and watch them thrive.”

Following are additional insights from Cech about her role, the company and today’s shoppers.

There is a section called “Cher’s Picks” in the Pavilions weekly ad. What distinguishes these selections?

At Pavilions, we curate a distinctive blend of mainstream and specialty products. “Cher’s Picks” is my opportunity to spotlight items that may not yet be on our guests’ radar.

I seek out products that are innovative, trend-forward and thoughtfully crafted – items that either fulfill a specific need or offer a delightful surprise. My goal is to enhance the shopping experience by introducing our guests to something unexpected and exceptional.

What inspires you about the future of Albertsons and Pavilions?

Having spent much of my career with the Albertsons organization, I’ve witnessed its evolution firsthand.

What excites me most is our unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence. Pavilions, in particular, serves as a dynamic testing ground for new ideas and emerging trends.

We’re uniquely positioned to adapt quickly and thoughtfully, ensuring we remain at the forefront of the grocery industry. The future holds immense promise, and I’m proud to be part of a company that continues to lead with purpose and integrity.

What’s resonating with shoppers in 2025?

Today’s consumers are increasingly health-conscious and discerning. High-protein products are in high demand, especially as convenient, nutritious snacks.

We’re also seeing sustained growth in low- and no-sugar options across all food categories.

Functional beverages – those offering added health benefits – are particularly compelling. Shoppers are seeking products that align with their wellness goals, and we’re committed to meeting those evolving preferences with thoughtful, high-quality offerings.

What makes the grocery industry – and Pavilions – so meaningful to you?

For me, it all comes down to people. I’ve chosen to dedicate my entire career to this company because I believe in its mission and values.

One guiding principle that has stayed with me is a quote from our founder, Joe Albertson: “You’ve got to give the customer the merchandise they want, at a price they can afford, complete with lots of tender, loving care.” That philosophy continues to shape our culture.

When we prioritize the well-being of our guests and associates, success naturally follows.
