Harris Teeter is bringing back its annual Chef’s Best fundraiser on Aug. 8, supporting Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in their mission to end hunger.

This year’s event will feature an evening of Spanish-inspired cuisine crafted by celebrated chef, cookbook author, media personality and Cúrate co-founder Katie Button, featuring tapas, charcuterie and desserts, alongside live entertainment, auctions and raffles.

The event will take place in the Crown Ballroom of the Charlotte Convention Center. Every dollar raised through Chef’s Best supports Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina’s mission to eliminate hunger throughout 24 counties across North Carolina and South Carolina.

In fiscal year 2023-24, the food bank distributed almost 90 million pounds of food, with more than 54 million pounds of its annual distribution being fresh produce, meat and dairy. The 2024 event generated $500,000 to help feed families in need.

“Food insecurity affects too many families in our region, and events like Chef’s Best demonstrate the power of community collaboration,” said Danna Robinson, director of corporate affairs and customer relations at Harris Teeter.

“We’re grateful for our continued partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and excited to welcome Chef Katie Button to help us make a difference. Her culinary expertise promises to make this year’s event both delicious and impactful.”

Button is a five-time James Beard Foundation award nominee, cookbook author and founder of Cúrate lifestyle brands, which houses Asheville’s acclaimed Cúrate Bar de Tapas restaurant, home goods marketplace Cúrate at Home and Cúrate Trips. Her background includes training under renowned chefs Ferran Adrià and José Andrés, leading to her success with the Button Meana Group and Cúrate Bar de Tapas, which won the 2022 James Beard Foundation Outstanding Hospitality award.

Button also has been an active force in rebuilding Asheville’s hospitality industry following 2024’s devastating Hurricane Helene and is currently a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Western North Carolina Recovery.

A highlight of the evening will be Button’s live culinary demonstrations, offering guests the opportunity to see her Spanish-inspired techniques in action.
