Dollar General has made an additional $1 million donation to celebrate its fifth-year partnership anniversary with Feeding America, which helps address national food insecurity impacting more than 47 million people in the U.S.
Since piloting the program in 2019 and announcing it in 2021, Dollar General has donated more than $5 million, as well as more than 60 million meals through in-kind donations.
“With stores and distribution centers located throughout the country in rural, suburban and metropolitan areas alike, we are proud to partner with Feeding America to address food insecurity,” said Denine Torr, Dollar General’s VP of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy.
“As we embark on our sixth year of partnership, we are grateful for the milestones we have accomplished with Feeding America and its partner food banks to stock pantries and increase food access for neighbors in need.”
In 2024, Dollar General donated more than 28 million pounds of food from stores and distribution centers. In February, the company surpassed a milestone of providing more than 50 million meals. Dollar General serves more than 40 percent of U.S. counties through product donations.
“With Dollar General’s unwavering support, we can ensure more families can have access to vital resources necessary to build a brighter future and stronger communities,” said Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot. “This partnership is a testament to what we can achieve when we unite.”
In addition to its Feeding America partnership, Dollar General offers fresh produce in more than 6,700 stores; has partnered with a registered dietician to develop better-for-you recipes using ingredients from its stores; and recently added 100 new private label brand products – more than half of which are new Clover Valley food and beverages.
