Publix Super Markets held a grand opening celebration May 28 for a new 48,387-square-foot store at 3715 Wahoo Falls Trace in Gainesville, Georgia.

The supermarket is the second the grocer has opened over an eight-month span in the Northeast Georgia city, following the Sept. 12 debut of its store at 2155 Limestone Ridge.

For the latest opening, Publix offered several specials for customers, including free 95th anniversary bags to the first 95 customers.

Nicole Krauss, Publix media relations manager, spoke with The Shelby Report at the grand opening.

“There’s so many unique features here, from the mezzanine to the deli, where you can pick up a Pub Sub or sushi and specialty cheeses and enjoy them upstairs [in our seating area],” she said. “We have about 150 associates, so the new store is bringing jobs and commerce and a sense of community to [the area].”

The departments highlighted at the new store include:

  • Produce – Organic and conventionally-grown fresh fruits and vegetables, with locally grown produce and exotic choices from around the world. The floral department stocks seasonal bouquets;
  • BakeryOffers an array of cakes, cookies and pies, as well as wedding cakes and desserts made by professional decorators. Breads and rolls are baked fresh throughout the day;
  • MeatFeatures custom cuts, including Publix private label all-natural and organic GreenWise chicken. Customers seeking a home-cooked meal with minimal prep time can choose from ready-to-cook items prepared fresh daily;
  • SeafoodCarries fresh seafood delivered throughout the week. It includes wild and farm-raised fish, as well as a wide variety of shellfish. Publix’s whole fish and fillets are fresh, never frozen. Sushi chefs create hand-rolled selections daily;
  • Pharmacy – Also includes a large variety of body care products and selection of natural and conventional vitamins, minerals and supplements; and

“We always seek to be a reflection of the communities that we serve,” Krauss said. “Having already been a part of the Gainesville community, [we are excited] to extend that and help the nonprofits in the area, specifically focused on youth, education, hunger relief.

“It’s always exciting to continue to grow roots in the community. We are so excited to open our doors today.”
