Save Mart, a part of The Save Mart Companies, celebrated the April 30 grand reopening of its store at 801 Oakdale Road in Modesto, California.
The festivities included a Supermarket Sweeps charity challenge between Modesto’s police and fire departments, an in-store mural creation and a naming contest for Save Mart’s classic parade go-kart.
Shoppers were treated to special giveaways, with the first 100 customers receiving bags of groceries at checkout. In addition, the store made more than $17,000 in charitable donations at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“The grand reopening of Save Mart at Oakdale and Scenic reinforces our more than 70-year commitment to Modesto and the Central Valley. As part of the newest shopping experience at Save Mart, we are offering sweeping price reductions on thousands of essential items our customers use daily,” said Donovan Ford, SVP and chief operations officer.
“Every investment in our stores is an investment in our community. Modesto is our hometown, and our commitment to this city has never been stronger.”
Save Mart Store Manager Holly Alton and The Save Mart Companies’ President Jim Perkins welcomed community members and dignitaries during the ribbon cutting and presented checks totaling $9,000 in community investments to local organizations.
Following the ribbon cutting, the police and fire department teams competed in a “Save Mart + Local Heroes: Sweeping the Community” charity challenge, with the fire department receiving a $2,000 first-place donation to Modesto City Firefighters Association Widows and Orphans Fund and the police receiving a $1,500 runner-up donation to the Healthy Room Project. It was a close race, with just $21.68 separating the two when the final carts were tallied.
The food collected during the challenge, worth $4,140.78, was donated to the Food Initiative of Greater Stanislaus on behalf of Modesto Mayor Sue Zwahlen.
Modesto artist Hocus began working on a “Modesto in Motion” mural celebrating the city’s car culture and agricultural heritage. The live-in store creation will continue through May 4.
Refreshed throughout, the store was reimagined to meet the evolving needs and tastes of shoppers. That includes a price reduction program on products central to families. The Lower Prices initiative is focused on easing expenses for families while redefining value in grocery shopping.
