Fareway Stores Inc. held a groundbreaking ceremony April 1 for its first store in Kansas – a 21,000-square-foot Fareway Meat & Grocery at 15790 State Ave. in Basehor.
First announced in February 2024, the store will feature a built-in smoker to provide freshly smoked items typically only offered at Fareway Meat Market locations.
“The Basehor community is a perfect match for our newest store, where customers can expect the highest quality meat, freshest produce and our commitment to provide them customer service with gratitude,” said Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer.
The store will offer fresh, high quality meat; a full-service butcher counter; farm-fresh produce; and services such as carryout to customers’ vehicles.
It also will feature FastLanes, a self-service checkout option, as well as online shopping and curbside pick-up, available at shop.fareway.com. A back-up generator will ensure operations continue should the store lose power.
“As the mayor of Basehor, I have heard for years about the need for a grocery store in our community. I am thrilled to have a full-service grocery store coming to town – and not just any grocery store. I think Fareway Meat & Grocery is the perfect fit for Basehor,” said Mayor Dick Drennon.
“I knew after visiting the store in West Des Moines, Iowa, that Fareway Meat & Grocery shared many of the same values that make Basehor such a great place to live and work. I feel so lucky that Fareway has decided to open their first full service grocery store in Kansas right here in Basehor.”
Construction is under way, with an anticipated grand opening by the end of the year. More details will be announced soon.
