Big Y Foods has donated $75,000 to support the American Red Cross network’s humanitarian relief efforts to those affected by the wildfires in California.

The Springfield, Massachusetts-based supermarket chain collected donations from customers and employees Jan. 17-31 in-store, online and myExpress Checkout Mobile app. The total also included contributions from Big Y.

“We are truly grateful for the generosity of our customers and employees in response to the recent California wildfires,” said Big Y President and CEO Michael P. D’Amour.

“Additionally, we appreciate our partnership with the American Red Cross for providing unwavering support and much needed resources to those impacted by this devastation. Together, we are able to provide relief and hope to these affected communities.”

Big Y Foods Inc. is an independently owned supermarket chain in New England that operates supermarkets, Table & Vine Fine Wines and Liquors and Big Y Express gas and convenience locations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut. It has more than 10,000 employees.

The company has been recognized by Forbes as a Best-in-State Employer in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and in 2023 for Newsweek’s America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity and for Women.

Founded in 1936 by brothers Paul and Gerald D’Amour, the store was named after an intersection in Chicopee, Massachusetts, where two roads converge to form a “Y.”
