The Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC) elected David Hinojosa of Vallarta Supermarkets to its board of directors during a meeting Jan. 25 in La Quinta, California.
At Vallarta, Hinojosa is responsible for company-wide operations, including P&L, fresh departments, merchandising, sales, compliance, warehouses, risk management, continuous improvement, loss prevention and human resources.
“We look forward to [David’s] contributions to our mission of advancing education and leadership in the food industry,” said Kevin Lovell, WAFC interim president and chairman and SVP of Operations of ABS/Safeway – NorCal.
With more than 28 years of experience in the retail business, Hinojosa has a track record of improving people, developing strategic direction and driving revenues and profitability. He also has strong communication and people skills, building teams that achieve individual and organizational goals.
Hinojosa also is adept at developing innovative solutions instrumental in controlling inventories, improving efficiencies and leveraging data analytics to positively impact top- and bottom-line performance.
“[David] will bring a unique business outlook and has demonstrated great servant leadership throughout his career. David’s participation and ideas will be instrumental as we strategically move forward,” said Patrick Posey, WAFC’s chief operating officer.
Established in 1921, the WAFC is focused on providing educational opportunities for food industry associates. The Food Industry Management Program at the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business has been available to qualified industry participants for 64 years.
In 2000, the WAFC expanded its scope by working with community colleges throughout the western U.S. to establish the Retail Management Certificate Program, whose curriculum is available at 30 college/satellite locations and online nationally.
