BJ’s Wholesale Club’s fourth ambient distribution center, which is under construction in Commercial Point, Ohio, is expected to open in early 2027, joining eight BJ’s stores in the state.

The center will expand the company’s supply chain capacity to support its growing footprint. Over the past five years, BJ’s has opened more than 30 stores. Its 250th location will open Jan. 31 in Louisville, Kentucky.

BJ’s also has increased its membership by more than 35 percent in that same period, reaching 7.5 million members.

“Our business has grown meaningfully over the years, and we continue to invest in our supply chain to better serve members,” said Krystyna Kostka, SVP and chief supply chain officer. “With the opening of this new distribution center, we’ll have the agility to support our clubs more efficiently than ever – ensuring members have the products they need, when and where they expect them.”

The 500,000-square-foot facility in Commercial Point, a suburb of Columbus, will feature a solution from Swisslog, a provider of warehouse automation and software, that includes automated pallet storage, case-handling equipment and mixed-case pallet building.

“Swisslog is pleased to support BJ’s Wholesale Club’s supply chain with innovative automation solutions that will help it maintain optimal inventory levels to support its growing network of clubs,” said Sean Wallingford, the tech firm’s president and CEO. “The project reinforces Swisslog’s commitment to empowering retailers with efficient, reliable and sustainable logistics solutions tailored to their unique business requirements.”

The facility, which will serve as a hub to replenish ambient-temperature grocery and general merchandise items in BJ’s network, will sit on a 125-acre site, allowing for future expansion. VanTrust Real Estate, which has developed more than 11.8 million square feet of space in Ohio since 2014, is managing the development with its Columbus-based team.

“The project at Rickenbacker Exchange at Commercial Point is a tremendous opportunity for the economic growth of Pickaway County,” said Phil Rasey, VP at the real estate company. “VanTrust is honored to partner with BJ’s Wholesale Club as we work to bring new business to the Village of Commercial Point.”
