Tops Friendly Markets has launched its annual Check Out Hunger campaign, taking place in all stores through Feb. 8.
Since its inception in 2004, the effort has raised nearly $6.5 million for participating food banks, making an impact in the fight against food insecurity.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, among households with children, 17.9 percent (6.5 million) experienced food insecurity in 2023. In addition, 5.1 percent of all U.S. households (6.8 million) faced exceptionally low food security, where normal eating patterns were disrupted due to limited resources.
