Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Co. President and CEO Jerry McCann is retiring and will be succeeded this month by grocery industry veteran Christopher Brown.
McCann has served the Bessemer, Alabama-based wholesaler for more than 36 years in many capacities, including the last three-and-a-half years as president.
According to the PWADC Board of Directors, Brown brings more than 30 years of executive and management experience to the cooperative, most recently with Piggly Wiggly Midwest in Wisconsin. His prior experience includes leadership roles with Nash Finch in Minnesota and C&S Wholesale Grocers in New Hampshire. He will be relocating to Alabama from Minnesota.
“We’re confident Christopher will provide strong leadership to help PWADC continue to improve our service to member stores and grow the business, and we call upon all PWADC employees to give their full support to him,” the company shared in a statement.

The PWADC board and its store owners expressed their appreciation of McCann’s contributions and leadership in building and strengthening the company over the years, wishing him the best in his retirement.
